Quarter Moon - Where the Action Is

We hear lots about the New Moon and the Full Moon but very often events occur around the Quarter Moons.  The First Quarter Moon occurs halfway between the New Moon and Full Moon.  This is the waxing Moon, the Moon gets bigger every night until it reaches fullness.  Then each night it begins to diminish.   When it is halfway between the Full Moon and the next New Moon it reaches the Third Quarter stage.  This is the waning Moon.

The current First Quarter Moon occurs February 25th with the Sun in Pisces and the Moon in Gemini.  Gemini Moon is a busy Moon, folks are more adaptable under this Moon and tend to be more talkative. Gemini Moon enhances our ability to see both sides of the picture which can be a good thing but it inhibits the decision making process.  This will be a very busy day.  Short trips, conversations, and overloaded in boxes are just a few threads that will have to be pulled together.

While the Moon is in the waxing phase it is a good time to start something that you wish to see grow.  A waxing Moon in Cancer is the optimal time as Cancer is a very fertile sign.  This week the Moon enters Cancer at 7:50 AM on Friday morning, the 27th and remains there until Sunday evening at 6:43 PM when Moon enters fiery Leo.

But before the Moon enters Leo on Sunday it becomes “void of course”.   When the Moon makes its last major connection to another planet and will make no other connections until it moves into the next sign, it is said to be void of course.   Voids can last for seconds, minutes or days.  With the current planetary lineup there are long periods of void of course.

Things begun under a void of course Moon have unexpected results.  One’s judgment can be faulty and facts are not readily at hand.   This period is best for routine work.  Meditation and spiritual matters work well during this period.  It’s a great time to simply kick back.

Despite all this Sunday will be a busy day with some unusual activity going on.  Mercury in Aquarius connects with Uranus and Jupiter during the daylight hours.  Mercury rules all kinds of communication, transportation, the wind, the mind and how we process information.  Uranus nudges our urge to freedom bringing change that often occurs suddenly.  Mercury and Uranus together can signal aviation disasters, sudden destructive winds, communication and transportation snafus.  Jupiter symbolizes optimism, enthusiasm, and justice.  The planet of expansion, Jupiter brings abundance. A Mercury / Jupiter connection can bring a lot of hot air.  Expect a lot of political pontificating coming from the Sunday morning talk shows.

When Jupiter catches up to Uranus early Tuesday morning sparks will fly.  Justice, liberty and freedom are themes splashed across the headlines.  Jupiter always brings something big while Uranus is a true wild card bringing something totally unexpected.

On Wednesday, March 4th Moon enters practical Virgo.  Moon in Virgo is a great time to organize messy kitchen drawers, sort through papers and any tasks that require attention to detail.  We get concerned about our diet and health issues while Moon travels through Virgo.  Venus has a busy day on Wednesday touching base with Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto.  Venus rules love and money, she is a yin planet so has the ability to attract.   We don’t feel much like working when Venus is around, we just want to have fun.  Venus and Uranus together in the sky signals some unusual and very different types of relationships.  This can be an exciting combo but love affairs begun under this influence while they have a lot of sizzle and pop they can fizzle and plop just as quickly.  Venus with Pluto can bring love affairs that have a fated feel to them, almost an obsession.  Often issues of power and control come to the surface in existing relationships.  Venus’ active presence in the lead up to the Full Moon brings some sweetness and light to all situations.   Collaboration is a key word for Venus’ involvement.

The Full Moon in Virgo on Thursday, March 5th triggers a lot of communication, news reports and a search for truths that are not readily apparent.  Virgo Moon forces attention to detail and there is danger of not seeing the forest for the trees.  Step back and take a look at your own situation and try to gain some objectivity.

After the Full Moon it is Mars’ turn to take the wheel.  Unlike Venus, Mars is set to light the fuse, the more chaos the merrier.

Stay tuned for the next Quarter Moon installment.

New Moon, Black Moon Super Moon, What’s All the Fuss About?

This New Moon is called the Black Moon because it is the third New Moon of the winter season. It is called a Super Moon because a few hours after the New Moon the Moon reaches its closest point to the Earth.  So the Lunar energy is stronger thus high tides run higher as do emotions.

This New Moon is unique for another reason as well.  It occurs at 29 degrees, 59 minutes of Aquarius, and a mere minute later the Moon enters Pisces with the Sun following 2 minutes after that.  The 29th degree of any sign is a critical degree.  29 is the end so this period will be about endings which is not all that bad because you can’t start something new unless you finish the old.

This lunation cycle is one of transition.  The day after the New Moon on Thursday, February 19, 2015, Mars the planet of action and energy enters Aries.  Mars rules Aries, he functions well here.  Venus follows him into Aries on the following day.  Venus does not function well here.  Venus is yin while Aries is yang.  Venus attracts, Aries acts.   A little after midnight on Sunday morning the 22nd Venus and Mars get together.  This can be hot little love affair time.  Mars in Aries sizzles bringing Venus to the table, or to the bedroom, and passions peak.

By the First Quarter Moon on the 25th both Venus and Mars have connected to Saturn.  It’s reality time and the weekend affair that was so hot and sizzling may fizzle.  But while Saturn can throw a wet blanket on any situation in affairs of the heart he can signal commitment.  With both Venus and Mars in impulsive Aries it is best to wait before making that commitment. Venus enters her home sign of sensuous Taurus on March 17th, best wait until then to see if the fires still burn as hot.

On Sunday, March 1st Mercury in Aquarius connects with Uranus and Jupiter.  Mercury rules news, information, transportation and youth.  Uranus is the original rebel who loves to shake up the status quo.   Jupiter is the big old jovial Uncle who can be a benevolent influence but be wary.  Jupiter can bring an overabundance of whatever he’s involved in.

These Mercury connections set the stage for the lead up to the Full Moon on the 5th.  On Tuesday, the 3rd, Jupiter mixes it up with Uranus. On Wednesday Venus bounces off Jupiter, then Uranus and by nighttime she’s squaring off with Pluto.

The Jupiter Uranus connection holds the promise of something big. Jupiter brings an international flavor, finances, religion, and can sometime signal border disputes.  If your neighbor has shoveled out a parking spot, don’t park there.  Uranus when under stress can signal lightning storms, high winds, and other violent natural events.  Airplane and train mishaps, demonstrations, technological breakthroughs and snafus. Although he’s not under stress now, he will be, read on.

In the week after the Full Moon, Saturn turns retrograde.  Any time a planet changes direction the principles of that planet are emphasized. Saturn is reality and the area of the horoscope that Saturn is visiting is the area where one is usually between a rock and a hard place. Saturn transits force one to take care of business.  The real bugger is Mars as he makes the rounds touching base with Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto.  This is not a pretty sight. Now Uranus is under stress.   Mars’ connection with Uranus and Pluto fires up the already tense square between Uranus and Pluto. The final square, of seven since June 2012, between Uranus and Pluto takes place on Monday, March 16th.

There will be storms aplenty whether literal or figurative. Some folks might reach for power that is not truly theirs.  Others may try to free themselves of constraints they can no longer tolerate.  March will be a volatile, convulsive, disruptive time. Violence in many forms is all around.  Financial markets react to world events just as violently.

No matter what happens, Pluto is about deep rooted stuff.  It is important to look beneath the surface to find out what is really going on.   A Pluto transit to a natal house or planet digs deep into what that house or planet represents.  When Pluto plunges deep into the subconscious often the issues can’t be intellectualized at first.  There’s a feeling or a compulsion to do or to act or to change.

Uranus is all about change.  When habits have become rigid and no longer serve the higher good Uranus comes along to break up those crystalized, inflexible lifestyle routines. Uranus is the bolt out of the blue, the shock and awe guy.  But that bolt generally sets off a process that results in a much better situation further on down the line.  Sometimes it is hard to see the light at the end of that tunnel.  But keep trudging, it’s there.

New Year – New Moon January 2015

The First New Moon of 2015 occurs on January 20th at 8:14 AM with the Sun and the Moon mere minutes into Aquarius.  The horoscope cast for that moment has a Fixed Air signature with not a lot of Earth.  What this means is that there are a lot of ideas floating around, with the Aquarian flavor of radical, revolutionary and new, but with no grounding on the physical plane.  While these ideas may be great without the Earth energy they will be difficult to manifest in the material world. Mercury going retrograde the day after the New Moon further reinforcing this principle.  Mercury continues this retrograde motion through the four major phases of the Lunar cycle.  At the Last Quarter on February 11th Mercury turns direct again.
Despite these drawbacks this can be a very productive time.  It is at time to revise and review, a good time to fix things and readjust one’s way of thinking.  Great ideas you had in the past may not be working now.  Now is the time to tweak them or dump them altogether.  A little introspection and quiet contemplation creates fertile ground for new ideas to surface.  Wait until after February 11th to implement them.
Mars running with Neptune in Pisces with Saturn glaring at them both from Sagittarius brings the religious fanatics out of the wood work. The Saturn square Neptune aspect does not become exact until November 2015 of this year but the aspect is in range for quite awhile.  Saturn is about the harsh realities of life, constricting, contracting and conforming.  Neptune runs the gamut from high spirituality to lowdown deception, ruling the saints as well as the sinners.  Neptune is the wild night on the town, while Saturn is the morning after with its brutal hangover.  Fiery Mars in watery Pisces does not function well.  Mars is the action planet and that action is under water.  The spirit it willing but the flesh is weak.
This Piscean energy dovetails very well with the Mercury Retro period.  Look within for the answers.  Pray, meditate and always take the high road.  It’s the only way during this tricky time.
The week of the Full Moon on February 3rd brings some energy shifts and creates a lot of action, some of it misguided.  Venus has moved into Pisces and caught up with Neptune.  Venus Neptune aspects can make you think you’ve found your soul mate.  If you are functioning on a high level of spirituality, maybe you have.  Be wary of getting involved with someone who needs to be fixed.  True love is a relationship between equals.  Avoid being the savior or being the martyr.
During this week the Sun shines light upon Uranus.  This is an anything goes aspect.  Bright ideas surface but it pays to think it through before acting.   By Friday the 6th Mercury the idea planet confers with Saturn getting some practical advice.  The Sun mixes it up with Jupiter making us all feel expansive and on top of the world.  Beware of exaggeration and those who promise more than they can deliver.

At the Last Quarter moon on February 11th Mercury turns direct.  This is the time to assimilate those ideas and expect new information to pop up over the next week or so that might alter your opinion.   Dark Moon time is still a time of reflection and going within.   Act after the next New Moon on February 18th when the new phase begins as the Moon once again begins to wax.

The Solar Eclipse and the Aftermath

The Solar Eclipse of October 23, 2014 occurred at 0 degrees, 24 minutes of Scorpio.  Venus at the Eclipse moment was at 0 degrees 3 minutes of Scorpio.  This is a tight conjunction and fuses the energies of the Sun, Moon and Venus.  Eclipses always bring changes and those changes usually occur in the area of life that is hit by the Eclipse in the individual’s horoscope.  But this particular Eclipse because of the proximity of Venus places the emphasis on relationships.  With Mercury retrograde at Eclipse time, poised to turn direct the implication is revise, review and examine your relationships.  The Scorpio emphasis promises complexity. Stuff people have been putting up with for awhile is no longer tolerable. Those annoying habits, modes of speech, and inconsiderate actions that have been overlooked now stick in the craw of the significant other.  It may be some time before things are sorted out.  Some relationships may fall by the wayside.
Mercury changing direction on Saturday, October 25, 2014 and Mars moving into Capricorn on Sunday, the 26th shifts the energy.  Mars in Capricorn likes to get things done.  Mars here is not dreamy or ethereal; here he deals in concrete reality. On Monday the 27th, Venus cozying up to Neptune may try to put the stars back into your eyes but this is only temporary.  Venus and Neptune are about soul mates, soul bonding and seeing things through rose colored glasses.  That soul mate may be a soul stealer so beware.
All Saints Day, November 1st may prove to be a day of revelation as Mercury, now direct, connects with Jupiter, Venus connects with Pluto and Mars with Neptune. That is a lot of action and a lot of different types of energy.  Mercury and Jupiter bring big talk, exaggeration and yes, loud voices.  Venus with Pluto can be passionate but also raises the issue of power and control. Who’s controlling who? This aspect is also about obsession.  Mars in practical Capricorn busts the bubble of otherworldly Neptune in Pisces.
At the Full Moon on November 6th there is still time for some even handed discussion, a time to clear the air.  Do so before Saturday the 8th when Mercury moves back into Scorpio taking the gloves off and ready for some hard truths. Sunday Venus in Scorpio squares off with Jupiter in Leo.  Venus, relationships and money, digs deep in Scorpio and brings up lots of muck. Jupiter enlarges all the issues.  These two are considered benefic but Scorpio is never easy.
On Monday the 10th of November things get aggressive and argumentative when Mars and Pluto join forces. Both in Capricorn, there’s a no nonsense attitude and issues of power and control surface. There is great potential for violence here.  Avoiding those folks who are prone to violence is a good idea.  On the 11th Mercury and Neptune throw clarity out the window and perhaps the truth.
On Wednesday Venus and Saturn bring stability to relationships but put a cramp in the budget.  Debt, market fluctuations and relationships get complicated. There’s nothing easy. Mars and Uranus mix it up so there is no use in trying to conform to the schedule.  Anything goes. Another period of mishaps and sudden, explosive events, traffic, aviation and earth changes all come to mind.
At the Last Quarter Moon some ugly stuff begins to surface.  All that has happened since the New Moon Solar Eclipse needs to be assimilated.  Clarity and an easing of intensity become possible on Sunday when Neptune in Pisces changes direction and Venus leaves intense Scorpio and move into freewheeling Sagittarius.

Use this time until the New Moon on the 22nd to meditate, contemplate and digest all the knowledge, insight and enhanced intuition the Solar Eclipse has brought you. The Scorpio Eclipse is all about transformation.  Relationships may not have to end but in order to survive they must change.  This includes your relationship to yourself.  Think about it.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse – Cardinal Signs Beware

This is going to be one of them rock and roll weeks where the sudden and unexpected changes the trajectory shifting our forward motion sending us into directions and places we never thought we’d go to.
The Lunar Eclipse kicks off the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square.  Issues involving those planets, political stuff, strange weather patterns, and acts of terror are shaken up; twisted and turned resulting in outcomes never before perceived.
On a very personal level, because the eclipse falls along the Libra/Aries axis, relationship issues come to a head.  These energies can escalate domestic violence with the abused as well as the abusers facing decision time. Get out, get help and make changes.
Retrograde Mercury insures that we received a lot of mixed messages whether from loved ones, authority figures or the news media. On Friday, October 10th Mercury slips back into Libra providing an opportunity to rehash old issues involving relationships, personal or political. This return to Libra favors negotiating new terms and updating old agreements.
This Lunar Eclipse falls on the natal Saturn of the USA. (July 4, 1776) The USA is young compared to many nations of the world that have been in existence for thousands of years. With the ongoing, transiting Uranus/Pluto square setting off the USA’s natal Sun/Saturn square it’s safe to say that the USA is going through some growing pains and has been for the past 6 years or so.  Liberals and Conservatives disagree on many subjects but a cruise around the web or a conversation with your neighbor, no matter what the political stance, reveals a general disgust with Mayors, Governors, Senators and Presidents.  This feeling is reflected around the world with a general discontent with those in authority.  The Uranus/Pluto square in affect from 2012 through 2015 and beyond has fueled this discontent and will continue to do so until changes have been made.  This current Lunar Eclipse marks a significant period or point within that time span.
Uranus encourages rebellion.  Tied up in this current Lunar Eclipse that energy prods and pushes a lot of people to resist authority and shake up the status quo. Relationships that no longer feed our growth come under scrutiny.  Some will change and grow with the flow; those that are stagnant and stuck may fall by the wayside.
For the Cardinal signs, Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn Uranus and Pluto have been doing their dance on the Cardinal platform. The lives, feelings and physical surroundings of our Cardinal friends have been undergoing slow, inexorable change triggered perhaps by some sudden, unexpected events that are beyond their control. The Fixed signs, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius, and the Mutable signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces by extension are all feeling these pressures as well.
There’s been a buildup to this Lunar Eclipse. The energy culminates at the Full Moon. Decisions will be made and plans for future action will be made as well.  The Solar Eclipse that follows, the New Moon of October 23rd will set the stage for more change.
Until that time reassess, realign and review.  Lunar Eclipses are more inner and emotional while the Solar Eclipses are more outer and active, proactive even.  Remember Mercury does not go direct until the 25th.  After that time things get clearer, information surfaces and we are better equipped to make important decisions.
